Air source heat pumps for hydronic heating

An efficient, environmentally conscious way to heat the water in a hydronic system by drawing heat from the surrounding air.

Hydronic heat pumps

A hydronic heat pump is an efficient and environmentally conscious way to heat the water within the system. By transferring heat from the surrounding air, heat pumps can provide reliable heating while using less energy than many traditional heating methods.

Suitable for everything from residential homes to large-scale commercial projects, hydronic heat pumps are installed externally in an area with sufficient airflow and adequate clearance around the unit.

Installation

Heat pumps are designed for external installation and require unobstructed airflow to operate efficiently. The unit must be positioned on a suitable, stable plinth or base.

A dedicated electrical GPO and suitable stormwater or waste drainage should be provided within approximately 500 mm of the proposed heat pump location.

Barefoot Underfloor Heating will coordinate with the project manager and relevant trades to help ensure electrical, plumbing, structural and floor-finishing requirements are considered before installation, helping to achieve a smooth and efficient installation process.

Key considerations

  • Heat pumps must be installed externally in an area with adequate airflow and clearance.
  • A stable, level plinth or suitable mounting structure is required.
  • Consider the location carefully to minimise noise near bedrooms and living areas.
  • Electrical power and suitable drainage should be available close to the unit.
  • Heat pumps provide an energy-efficient and environmentally conscious option for hydronic heating.
  • Suitable for both residential and commercial heating applications.

Solamander HT heat pumps

Solamander HT heat pumps

The Solamander HT range of high-temperature air-to-water heat pumps combines reliable performance with high-quality components and installer-friendly design. It uses natural, eco-friendly R290 refrigerant with a very low Global Warming Potential, and smart modulation technology optimises efficiency to suit heating demand.

With water temperatures of up to 75°C, the Solamander HT is ideal for retrofit applications, radiator systems and underfloor heating. It comes in 6, 9, 12 and 16 kW.

  • High-temperature output up to 75°C
  • Natural R290 refrigerant with low Global Warming Potential
  • High-quality components for dependable performance
  • Smart modulation for improved efficiency
  • Designed for easier installation and servicing
  • Suitable for retrofit and new-build applications
  • Wi-Fi connection available

Buffer tanks and domestic hot water

Buffer tanks and domestic hot water

A buffer tank gives the system volume, steadies the run times and keeps the heat pump working efficiently. Tanks run from 50 litres wall mounted up to 250 litres floor standing.

Where the project calls for it, the same heat pump can also be set up to produce domestic hot water, so one unit covers both the heating and the hot water for the house.
