Hydronic underfloor heating
Warm water circulated through a closed circuit of pipe under the floor, giving gentle, even heat with nothing on show in the room.
Hydronic heating turns the floor itself into the heat emitter. Warm water runs through a continuous loop of pipe under the floor finish, and the whole surface gives off a soft radiant heat rather than blowing hot air around the room.
Because the water only needs to reach 35 to 45 degrees, the system suits a heat pump, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to heat a whole house over a season. It also moves very little dust, which matters in a house with allergies, and there is nothing to see: no vents, no wall units, no fan noise.
The three floor systems below differ in where the pipe sits and how fast the floor reacts. The heat source and the controls are chosen after that.
Choose your system.

In-Slab Hydronic Heating
Pipe fixed to the reinforcing mesh before the pour. The slab stores the heat and releases it slowly through the day.

In-Screed Hydronic Heating
Pipe in a thin 50 mm screed just below the floor finish, so it heats up much quicker than a deep in-slab system.

Under-Timber Hydronic Heating
Aluminium diffusion plates between the joists of a timber floor. No change to floor height and no concrete.

Air Source Heat Pump
Draws heat from the surrounding air to warm the water in the system, using less energy than traditional heating.

Gas Boiler
Compact, reliable condensing boilers, installed internally or externally to suit the property.

Radiator
Fast-acting wall or floor mounted panels for bedrooms and lightweight timber floors where in-floor heating cannot go.

The products behind the system.
Solamander HT heat pumps

High-temperature air-to-water heat pumps from Devex Systems, using natural R290 refrigerant with a very low Global Warming Potential. Smart modulation matches output to demand, and water temperatures of up to 75°C suit retrofit work, radiator systems and underfloor heating. Available in 6, 9, 12 and 16 kW.
Buffer tanks and domestic hot water

A buffer tank gives the system volume, steadies the run times and keeps the heat pump working efficiently. Where the project calls for it, the same heat pump can also be set up to produce domestic hot water.
X Pipe and Blansol PE-Xa pipe
Purpose-made hydronic heating pipe built from a PE-Xa inner layer, an adhesive layer and an EVOH oxygen barrier outer layer. Cross-linking gives it high resistance to both pressure and temperature, and the pipe carries a 15 year warranty.
Blansol Multipex multilayer pipe

A multilayer pipe with a butt-welded aluminium core between inner and outer layers of cross-linked PE-Xa. Durable, flexible and resistant to corrosion, and it holds its shape where the pipe needs to be set out by hand.
X Thermostat

Seven models, from a manual dial through to the TS 700 dual-zone touchscreen that runs a heated floor and a towel rail from one unit. The TS 600 adds Wi-Fi and app control. Each zone is read by an NTC floor sensor in a conduit so it can be replaced without lifting the floor.
Immergas condensing boilers
Where gas is the better answer, we fit the Immergas Intec range in 20 kW and 30 kW, internal or external, with condensing technology and a built-in pump module.
